Those brave souls at Geneon actually sent me another Hello Kitty to review! Bad Batz Maru is missing, trouble has found the candy tree, and those cute little characters of Stump Village turn lemons into lemonade in this round of fun little adventures.
Remember what happened last time? Batz Maru was banging away at the candy tree looking for some more sweets to fall down. Instead he got zapped by lightning along with the tree! The others are quick to go look for him. When they see what happened to the tree, they put their fluffy little heads together and come up with a big idea – build a theater! Everyone pitches in and they each come up with their own personal touch to make their dreams happen. There’s even floating yarn balloons. Don’t expect me to understand or explain how the physics of the world are defied here, it’s a kids cartoon, you just let yourself fall into the pink and fluffy happy times of Hello Kitty and groove with the goodness. Now that they have this place to put on shows, they have to figure out what shows to put on. So don’t be surprised when you get to see these stop animation characters put out all the stops for a puppet show, or Bad Batz Maru wanting to have a circus. The last ep on this disc has the gang gathering corn from a wheat field (again, you must suspend disbelief) and a bizarre mishap leads to a madcap plan on how to make a scarecrow scary enough to frighten off the mean bird that’s causing trouble for the wee gang. Since this is a kids’ show, the scarecrow isn’t all that scary. But those fluffy characters sure are cute to watch them trundle and dash around making their drawings and putting things together all the time. This show hits wistful notes for me. I can remember as a kid making tents and imagining I was somewhere nifty, and putting boxes together pretending it was truck. Its fun ‘let’s pretend’ times and the show couldn’t be any sweeter if you doused it with pure sugar. The stop animation is just plain cool. Watching so much slick CG and 2D animation, this change to stop motion animation is easy on the eyes. It’s smoothly done, it really rocks. And that jiggy Bad Batz Maru still steals the show. EXTRAS: There are no extra goodies, just those sugary sweet characters. IN SUMMARY: Get ready for the sugar rush of wholesome goodness! It’s another zany trip with those loveable characters in Hello Kitty Stump Village!
