Shana faces Wirhelmina, torn between her duty as a Flame Haze and her feelings for Yuji. One demands she kill the Mystes which means destroying Yuji. The other aches for her to save him. In the end, the appearance of the Ball Masque and their Palace of the Stars strikes the point home when Shana makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the one she cares so much about. And that’s only the beginning of the final volume of Shakugan no Shana.

When the Ball Masque manages to abduct Yuji to fulfill their horrific plans, the remaining Hunters must find Yuji, either to save him…or kill him to keep the Denizens from controlling the artifact within him. A huge battle takes place with each of the hunters confronting the individual members of the Ball Masque, all in a desperate bid to save humanity.

The finale plays out like an action oriented grand opera filled with dramatic impetus. Whether on the side of destruction or salvation, each character has their own personal reasons for being in this decisive battle. It all builds to a poignant conclusion in what has been a captivating anime series.

The conclusion has its points of curiosity. Rather than being about destroying the enemy, it’s about stopping the destruction of the city and saving its people. Therefore the end leaves things wide open for another season. There is even the appearance of a particular new student at the high school which will undoubtedly raise some eyebrows. Despite the open angles, the main story of the anime builds to a strong finish that ends with flair and showcases stellar animation.

EXTRAS:
Bonus features include reverse cover art, Geneon previews, clean ending version 3, all new Naze Nani Shana videos which is an omake styled animated short humorously done to provide viewers with information about the world of the Crimson Denizens done by a chibi Friagne and Marianne; and Shana-tan episodes which are short animated Shakugan no Shana parodies.

IN SUMMARY:
Shana has been a fantastic anime showcasing captivating animation and a dramatic fantasy adventure.
