Eunhee has everything he wants in life. A movie star career and money. The only problem is he is very lonely. His life is dull and empty and he grows tired of the life he leads from day to day and in his view he believes his life will not get much better than it has.
One day though, quite out of the blue he comes across a young boy hidden in a doorway, looking rather down on his luck. The boy has no idea who Eunhee is and Eunhee wonders if he is a drunk, a vagabond or hurt in some way. The boy seems to cling to him a little out of insecurity, and is ready to leave him there when he feels a touch of guilt as the boy’s grip on him is more pronounced. Wondering why he is so clinging, he decides to take him back to his house for tea. Confused at this turn of events, Eunhee talks to the boy, finding out his name is Gain Yoo, and is surprised he does not recognise him as the world famous movie star to which he is accustomed to people knowing. Eunhee listens to him and on that day asks him to stay. He tells him about a gang he was beat up by who also robbed him as well as hurt him bodily. Gain shows his vulnerability and his sweetness, thanking Eunhee for being so kind. Eunhee is amazed at how he keeps his good humour even though he has been violated in this way by the thugs, and about being on the street for so long. Eunhee discovers Gain unlike him has had loads of various jobs and is versatile when it comes to work, whereas he has only had one career most of his life and it is all he seems to know. That night Eunhee tells Gain as far as bedroom arrangements are concerned, he can use the couch to sleep on, but while Eunhee is all snuggled up in bed, Gain finds the room he is welcome to is very cold and he sneaks upstairs to the warmest room in the house. The one where Eunhee is sleeping in. Gain continually feels awkward in his benefactor’s home, and Eunhee sees he becomes embarrassed around him if he has done something wrong. He has never met anyone in his life who apologises so much as he does As a manga, overall the story is compact and concise, bringing together the two polar opposites of Eunhee and Gain, and the plotline of rich superstar meets down on his luck boy. The prince and the pauper flavour of the story is a strong one, the love they have for each other at the moment is in a way hidden as they need more time to cope with the quirks and annoying habits they both have before they can have a true relationship. The setting is rather bohemian; Eunhee’s attitude in places is in keeping with how he is portrayed in the book. While Gain has nothing to offer Eunhee materially, he is giving in other ways as he does much better in his career as an actor by being around someone like him so he no longer feels so alone. The story is about overcoming problems in a relationship, especially a new one as this is, and the difficulties they encounter along the way. The art and story match perfectly, the character’s expressions are full and many, but none generic. They are interestingly unique as characters. Artwork in this manga has a sharp, crisp and angular tone about it. The faces are different to regularly drawn manga. The faces are rounded and chiselled to a very narrow point giving them an intriguing look. The cover art in a watercolour style depicting Eunhee and Gain in between the huge wrought iron gate of his mansion shows one oblivious of the other. IN SUMMARY: This is a unique tale of love and romance in unusual circumstances that accomplishes a great deal in this first thrilling volume.
