Best Student Council volume five brings us more of the comedic affair and school situation crazy stuff that the series always boasts. As we know by now, the students of Miyagami Academy who take part in the “Maximum Authority Wielding” (yes, capitol letters must be used here) Best Student Council have some pretty special talents. If it isn’t covert operations, or weapons specialties of all kinds - it’s something else, like a ventriloquism of sorts. Then again, what if the puppet in question actually thinks she’s a student? And what if that puppet is asked to become the next big singing idol in Japan due to her overwhelming talent? This reminds me of a certain South Park episode… or maybe a few of them!
Going along with the trend of total oddity, one female student finds a tiny newborn baby and everyone else thinks it’s hers. If pop idol puppets aren’t enough, surely a case of mistaken parental identity will shake things up on the school yard! And then, to top it all off, our favorite pint-sized redhead transfer student goes ahead and creates a card game that is all about her friends and exposes their innermost feelings and secrets to the whole world. Couldn’t be any harm in that right? Well, maybe. So yes, the students of the Best Student Council have many talents, though most of them seem to relate to getting the characters into heaps of trouble and conflict – though that makes a story, and a story is what we’re after! This has to be the craziest volume of Best Student Council yet – the series may have just “Jumped the Shark Tank,” as they say. But in anime, that’s often a good thing, and the potential for laughs in relation to these odd occurrences is high. And amazingly enough, the show still manages to be completely PG in relation to rating, so many more people will be able to enjoy it without threat to their innocence. Though, is any anime fan really truly innocent of mind? What came first, the chicken, or the egg? Either way, Best Student Council is a good time that can be taken in by all. EXTRAS: The disc extras include a clean opening and closing animation as well as a look at a Japanese game promo. IN SUMMARY: It’s a fun and enjoyable series that impress with its many innovative plot twist that always end up in laughs and light entertainment for the audience.
