The world of both vampires and humans are on the brink of war. Some wish to avert it. Others are bloodthirsty to make it happen sooner versus later. The vampiric race known as the Methuselah have sent a secret envoy from their empire. Ion is a noble and haughty vampire, but soon he will learn true courage comes in many forms…as does betrayal. Esther and AX agent Father Abel are charged with bringing Ion safely to Cardinal Caterina, but the Cardinal herself is having her own problems. The embassy she waits in is under siege as the Order of Rozen Kreuz move for a direct attack against her and all those who would try to establish a lasting peace between the vampire and human nations. Traitors within, enemies blasting at the doors outside, how are the would-be heroes of peace to survive in a world that howls for their blood? The danger is real, the stakes never higher, and Abel, Esther and those around them are pushed to the edge as they are cornered. The suspense is enthralling, the action sequences beautiful and disturbingly violent, while the events are pivotal to the plot and makes way for new and deadly wonders as Abel, Esther and Ion are forced to hide in the Empire that wants them all dead and dust. With the heroes on the run and villainy everywhere, they don’t know who to trust anymore. Esther and Ion venture out on their own and meet an enigmatic and charming young girl, and tragedy follows them just a few steps behind. This opportunity to see more of the Methuselah Empire is an irresistible one as we get to see some more of the vampire court and Augusta. Between the Vatican, the Empire, The Rozen Kreuz and their well-placed traitors, this anime has as involving and complicated political machinations as the finest of epic movies portraying the intrigues of royal court such as Elizabeth, Dangerous Liaisons and others. This volume sees some old enemies resurface, betrayers revealing their true colors, and unexpected reunions with old friends. People will die. Blood will fill the air and soak the ground. The danger hints at a secret within the Empire, one the enemies can’t learn lest all be lost. Produced by GONZO (Last Exile, Burst Angel), the animation is astonishing and never more so than in one sequence in this volume that shows Abel transforming fully with the blood scythe and his black wings while crimson trails of blood swirl in the soot laden air. It’s Gothic beauty at its most mesmerizing. EXTRAS: Bonus feature include reverse cover art, clean opening and ending animation, Historical Artifacts which gives an overview of the historical and religious names, artefacts, and references made within the series, and trailers of other FUNimation titles. IN SUMMARY: Layered plots, interesting twists and an animation style so beautiful that it will leave you breathless; Trinity Blood will seep into your veins and leave you wanting more. |
