Graceland is a planet destined to be detonated as a bomb is set to explode due to the government taking steps to rid a government uprising, though there is a grave problem. Planet Graceland has pilfered treasure hidden away by the old and now deceased pirate king Bruce.
A pirate by the name of Mister escapes from prison to collect it before it goes up in smoke along with the rest of the planet. The story’s main drive is the battle to get to the planet before it explodes into nothingness, and it is that which keeps the viewers interest. Mister has some help in the shape of Bruce's daughter, Franca and his bunch of pirates called Coyotes as the name of the title suggests. Franca is in possession of a pendant that has a particular use integral to the plot story, which is not explained until later in the series. Along with Franca’s no nonsense attitude at a fellow Coyote, and her feistiness in general, the theme of the story works as a future pirate anime with a wonderful creative amount of ideas that make up its entirety. Franca's aggression is one of the reasons to watch the DVD, even if there are several separate reasons as the characters of Mister, who has a dedication to finding the treasure, and a gritty hardness of personality that is prevalent in the anime and with the rest of the Coyotes. Angelica, the attractive Police Inspector and her android lolitas who are onto the Coyotes every move act their way onto the screen and work well around the existing characters . Facial expressions are one of the key aspects of the animation, and there is enough contrast on the facial shading to create a three-dimensional look to the characters. The hair moves around freely on both males and females in this and in a realistic way as it would normally on a human. The action stops, then starts again through the episodes so it is easy to take in the plot and story lines. The conflict is intense, the battles rage and the humour flows really well in this pirate romp brought forward into the future age. When there are battles, the explosions look realistic and the dog fights are intense. There are whimsical aspects to the anime, one of a troop of female androids dressed in Gothic Lolita outfits that are the foes to the Coyotes. Each android comes with specific moves, apparel and intriguing weapons once used have a humour content of their own. Occasionally, the soundtrack gives away the character's personalities and dubious intentions, but the music does bounce along well with the animation. EXTRAS: For the viewers delectation there is a production artwork gallery well worthy of the movie, as well as clean opening and closing animations. IN SUMMARY: Coyote Ragtime Show has action in abundance, a more than decent plot, and interesting characters. |
