Just when the Angel Troupe has formed, a clever thief has stolen not only their new Emblem Frame ship, but also one of their members, Nano-Nano! The timing couldn’t be worse as they’ve just received a distress call from Milfeulle and she is under attack! Can the Rune Angel Troupe rescue both their kidnapped comrade and save the one and only Gate Keeper needed to maintain contact between the galaxies?
This is one action packed volume of Galaxy Angel. Quite unlike the anime counterpart, this manga series has more depth and drama to the story of the Angel Troupe. First is the rescue attempt to reclaim the ship and Nano Nano from Anise. She’s a lot more than your average thief though, and will have a lasting impact on the Angel Troupe. Then there are some developments in Rico and Kazuya’s relationship. Despite Rico’s phobia of all men, she seems to accept Kazuya in her life. But when he suspects it’s because she doesn’t see him as a man, their growing bond hits an obstacle they will need to find a way to overcome. Next, Forte of the original Angel Troupe sets out to recruit the captain of the royal guard, Lily. With Lily’s mistrust of the members of the troupe, Forte challenges the deadly swordswoman to a duel! If all this wasn’t enough, Forte later gets attacked and then seems to be trying to take over the Neue galaxy! Amongst all that action, drama and potential romance, the manga still finds room to throw in a bit of mischief from Tequila, and Anise finds herself in a spot of trouble when one of the Angel Troupe members takes a shine to her. The series does a great job of moving from the comedy into the action and riddling it with drama and intrigue. The great artwork, particularly the character designs, are well done and the story is exciting with a lot of different things going on while making sure it’s never too busy, that way it is easy to follow. Broccoli Books continues its treasure trove of extras with this manga series, including four full color cover pages, a preview of the next volume, cast interviews with the Japanese cast who do the voices of the characters in the video game, Galaxy Angel Files with character bios, timeline, translation notes, ship specs, Angel Hot Spots photo collection, and four-panel comic strips. IN SUMMARY: Galaxy Angel II is an exciting manga series loaded with action, comedy, and fan service. There’s even room for a little bit of romance. The latest volume sees The Angel Troupe gain its final members and go up against one of their own when the galaxy is threatened. |
