When Worlds Collide is an anthology of stories with varying themes, writers and artists.
Lfe: 2065 Story: C.B. Potts/ Art: Studio Kosaru Kayo Miasomoto, a young male living in a mansion house surrounded by rich people is feeling guilty about the poor who are living outside in poverty while they are in a futuristic mansion house that is highly protected by the latest gadgets and security equipment. While the others are eating, Kayo is rudely taken at gunpoint by a male posing as a servant, who brings him from the house and takes him to a secret hideout, keeping him hostage. He decides he wants a ransom from Kayo's wife at the mansion and thinks she will pay handsomely for his safe return, but there is a twist in this tale. The character of Kayo is very well drawn, and the story reads at a steady pace, keeping the reader interested in the twists and turns evident in it. In Motion. Art: Liv Lingborn/ Story:Tina Anderson Former Vietnam veteran driver Liam picks up handsome hippy hitchhiker Simon who fits the stereotype of the 70's after flower power from the way he is dressed. Simon sees the two name tags on his wing mirror in the car and it brings flashbacks of his brother's death in Vietnam as part of Phu Bai's 57th Signal Group. When they find out more about each other, the road ahead becomes blocked and they both have to spend a night in a Motel. Liv's art is drawn a lot less heavily in this than in other manga, emphasizing the delicate nature of the characters. Tina's story is touching and conjures up tears when Simon talks about the loss of his brother. Far From Home Story: Meiyin/ Art: Tsukiko Set in the Georgian period, Julian is a young boy sent to be a servant to aristocrat Victor Nicolai as part of his father's sizeable debt to Victor. Julian finds his way around the large house, cleaning, washing and cooking for his new master, feelings of loneliness and being a prisoner there envelop his mind until one night he discovers a sinister secret about his new master. The artwork is superb and brings the reader into the story penned by Meiyin, making you smile at the twist at the end. Touch and Go Story: Danielle Kelley/ Art: Wendell Caralcanti/ Inks: Carlos Alberto Daniel, a High school boy is unnoticed at Hillsboro Preparatory School, and he has fallen for Lee Marcus, the coolest, popular guy there. One day they meet and skip class together, discussing their lives. Daniel wants to be a Pilot, while Lee aspires to be a Car Mechanic and finds school a hindrance to his goal. Detailed artwork and an interesting story makes this a lovely part of the anthology. The characters are believable and have a touch of coolness more associated with 1950's movies. Birthday Present Story: Sirk Tani/ Art: Will Walber One night Samuel takes out Birthday boy David to Cashmir, an exclusive male strip club, pre-booking them in for a showing and to let him see Samuel's new boyfriend. Though he is shy at first, David enjoys the show and meets the strippers only to find out one of them Samuel has chosen to be his personal Birthday present. Samuel and his friends leave David and the stripper Marcus to talk and get to know each other better. When they leave, Marcus is confronted by someone he did not expect to see. A brawl is started and David protects him. The artwork is sketchy, yet it is in keeping with the sweet story.
