Kairi sets Toji up to get an earful of the real Sae, the lying and vindictive girl ruining Momo’s reputation and social life. Sae steps up her malicious plans by accusing Momo of physically abusing her! The boys believe Sae and set out to make Momo regret her actions. Soap opera antics at their most over the top, Peach Girl is a high school drama anime come to life. By the end of the first couple of episodes, Momo and Toji’s relationship seems to be back on track. But what about Kairi? And we mustn’t forget that maniacal antagonist Sae. The tide seems to have turned against her after the school learned of her devious ways, but with Sae, it’s never long before she thinks up a new scheme and ropes some gullible guy (or group) into buying into her lies. This time a chance meeting with handsome model Jigoro lands Sae back into the limelight when she becomes a model and gets Jigoro as her devoted boyfriend. You’d think she’d be content with fame and fortune but not Sae. She sees Momo deliriously happy with Toji and it makes her blood boil. It’s not long before she unleashes her most devastating plan to break up the happy couple yet. And this time she ropes Jigoro into helping her. A few messages, some misdirections and lies, and Momo is about to have a birthday she’ll never forget – no matter how much she’ll want to! Sae sinks lower and lower. I didn’t think anyone could be more dense and gullible than Toji but Jigoro now tops the list. Does Sae actually love anyone? Is she even capable of it? After the despicable act she pulls on Momo’s birthday, people have got to be wondering just why Sae is so twisted. Meanwhile Kairi is pushed to the background this volume, although we do seem him playing the faithful friend to Momo here and there. Overall it’s an anime that is sinfully delicious with the drama, the angst and the diabolical machinations of the teenage mind when love and revenge are concerned. EXTRAS: Bonus features include FUNimation trailers, textless opening and ending songs, and a video interview with Japanese voice actress Megumi Nasu (Sae). IN SUMMARY: Peach Girl is pure soap opera. Pat Benatar sang the song “Love is a Battlefield” but Momo lives it!
