Kazuya Minekura, creator of Saiyuki Reload introduces fans to a whole new genre aimed at a more adult audience. It tells the story of Makoto Kubota, who is discovered by Bos Sanada and recruits him to be their gang leader over the younger members where he is both loathed and grudgingly respected by his underlings.

Makoto assassinates those who could be problematic to their gang, and when he goes to a whorehouse he finds he is uninterested in the women there who offer him their services. Having seen just about everything in his life as a gang leader, he one day learns of a new drug on the market called Wild Adapter which is not any ordinary drug and deaths from it are becoming too often in the city.

Makoto through looking for the drug gets closer to Sanada. Astoundingly more closer than he anticipated. Sharing intimate moments. Dear, emotional moments of youth and fears for the future.

After the death of his friend Komiya, Makoto asks Sanada if he can leave the organisation and cool off for a while. Little does he realise that this is only the beginning of his adventure as around the corner he finds the unlikeliest person he takes in as his friend.

Makoto is the leading character in an unusually dark action thriller, which cut its teeth originally in what seems the noir genre of backstreets, brothels and drug trafficking. Though this is a part of the story, there is a more intriguing shonen - ai part that can be read as highly romantic in many ways.

The art style is very reminiscent of the characters in Saiyuki, and this will cause the readers to bond with the characters as they did those before. The characters are easily warmed to as they seem to be partly based on how real life gang members would act, yet with a slight twist on their personalities. This new setting for Kazuya’s work will seem a more fresh and interesting leap from the fantasy world of Saiyuki Reload, and as it is more mature, it will reach a particular audience.

IN SUMMARY:
This is noir manga at its best. Draws the reader into a dark, deep underworld of crime, murder and retribution - with more action and excitement. The question is, can the reader handle it?
