For a fanatic of Furuba, this will be an essential present for the Christmas list this year.
Who would have thought with such a book there would be so much to do in it. With the first page the viewer will be aware of first will be the page of stickers, from Tohru, to Yuki and Kyo with the rest as their Zodiac animals. This book contains plenty of background information as the characters including their profiles that go much deeper into their personalities, star sign, past stories and also has the quotes said about them by opposing characters. Reading about them individually is quite a touching thing. Their biographical information is enough to cause a chuckle or two as all the characters have a distinct look and personality between them in the volumes of manga that have been produced. It is no wonder then that Fruits Basket has such a following among those who admire manga for what it is, and the wonder it can be when it concerns Natsuki’s work on this particular project. There are colour plates that form an exclusive gallery of the main characters along with sketches of what the cover art looks like from sketch to completion. The tale of the Chinese Zodiac is an interesting part of this manga as many may not know the actual story. Family tree diagrams and diagrams of the school are also shown as are interviews with Natsuki-sensei. The storyboard art was lovely to look at as well. It was refreshing to see the preliminary artwork as it was in the flesh, without embellishment or colour. It would be something that was not seen before and it will feel as though the reader is being shown a behind the scenes look at this series. No fan could really be without this book and if there are to be any more of the same, but focussing on other characters, there would be a demand for it. There is a whole load of artwork and previously unseen art in this book that leaves it practically overflowing with visual stimulation. Fans of this manga will find plenty to read and interact with as among all the pages of artwork, rough drafts for chapters and a wonderful fun-filled games section, which has a contest, mental game and quiz. And if this seems like not enough, there is a bonus manga, which was previously unpublished featuring Ritsu and Mitchan. IN SUMMARY: This is a must have for all fans of Fruits Basket. Packed with essential knowledge, fun stuff and artwork guaranteed to thrill!
