Yuji finds Shana laid on the ground outside his house. He tries to help her, but she just slaps him back, blaming him for her situation. Going to school, where he is asked to take a friend out with him to an art exhibition as they have two tickets that should not go to waste.
Inside there, Yuji and his friend come across a Crimson Denizen, Lami who recognises him as a Meestess. Believing he has hurt Shana, he mistrusts him at first, but Lami the corpse collector has a lot more to tell him that may shed some light on his existance. Margery is looking for Lami, but Lami tells Yuji that Friagne is wanting to do something most cruel to the world around him and wants no one to stand in his way. Shana is torn between her duty as a Flame Haze and her feeling for Yuji even though he is just a torch, and will soon die like any other of his kind. But what can she do when Alastor orders Shana to kill Yuji as he is more trouble than good. Shakugan No Shana looks very promising as an anime series now in its second volume, as the main characters have been introduced both good and bad. Friagne is the one who wants to tip the balance of that world, his purple hair, bishonen looks and devilish attitude make him the perfect baddie to Lami, Shana and the other Flame Hazes. The plot is interesting, the magic involved original and quite spectacular. Shana proves to be more emotionally minded than she did in the previous volume.
Rather than Yuji being seen as a hopeless soul his flame now burns bright and has more life in it than Shana thought. Viewers will have the feeling there is more he can do to help save the world he is now a part of.
EXTRAS: Text-less Ending, Trailers for other anime titles and DVD Credits make this a very interesting second volume.
IN SUMMARY: A finely-tuned story of life, death and kick-ass moves!
