Still intent on rescuing Griffith, the Band of the Hawk head to the castle to try to infiltrate the place, going underground to find him before he is found dead, but now he is in the hands of some older power, something more dangerous than anyone has encountered before.

Guts reflects on his actions when he was with him. What he thought of Griffith, and his lofty ambitions, and what might have been if he had kept with him instead of leaving at the last minute. He feels he could have stopped them capturing and torturing him for a whole year if he had not been so hasty, though will the rest of the Hawk members really want to see Griffith in his present state when he does free him?

Griffith, nearly insane thinks of his life so far while he is in the dungeon, as he has had plenty of time to do so. When Guts finds him, he tells the others to stay back, especially Caska as she will not like what she sees. The very sight of his tortured self, cuts, bruises and his emaciated body causes Guts to feel such shame and pity, realising he has not just been tortured but starved for a whole year.

Killing the torturer, their enemies have lined up to make Guts and his comrades in arms surrender, but the hundred man slayer is not about to back down, Picking up Griffith, his kills off most of the men in the castle making their way out, but are followed by their enemy and find them gaining on them most of the way.

Guts and his men cannot be ruled out as they still have strength enough to preserve the dream Griffith had originally.

His body in pain, Griffith is tended to by Caska and hangs in the balance between life and death as if by a thread while the others watch and discuss what their next move will be.

It is the moment the great eclipse shows itself that Griffith will find his pendant and will make the most dangerous of wishes.
The Band of the Hawk are nearing the end of their quest so when the unexpected occurs no one fan of the series will be disappointed.

As this, the last volume in the series keeps the viewer on the edge of their seats with action, gore, blood and dare it be said, guts. This is one series that shows the medieval period unvarnished, the violence is harsh and real-looking and does not glorify in any way the depiction of battle.

The story seems to come full circle since the beginning from when Guts was much older and wondering into a town in search for their new and cruel king.

It is how he will find out what happens later that makes for a very interesting watch.

EXTRAS:
TV Spot, Out-takes, Paint it Berserk where it shows how the phenomena has spread throughout Japanese culture where the fans have taken to painting huge murals of their favourite characters onto city buildings to promote the series, Encore TV Opening, and Forces Full Version.

IN SUMMARY:
Now the saga is complete! This is an anime with a dark, bloody edge - wonderfully menacing and hellishly good.

I've really got to get my hands on this one - the other volumes were amazing!
