Life continues for Light just as normal as he can make it without drawing suspicion to the fact Ryuk is with him in the home. Ryuzaki (L) is still watching Light as he goes home to watch TV, still sure he has something to hide.

The surveillance on both the Yagami and Kitamura households has gleaned nothing out of the ordinary, so Ryuzaki has ordered the cameras taken away but he has other plans up his sleeve.

He has an idea who Kira might be and if he thinks he has a chance of making him confess after getting to know him, then he has to do one thing - and that is to enrol at the same school as Light. After passing the college entrance exams, Ryuzaki reveals to Light he is L.

This bombshell causes him much anger as he also asked him to be a part of the Kira case as his father is with the police. Furious at first, he works out the problem of solitude, concluding that he could pretend to be a student, be friendly toward him and find out all about him in the process, and when he is of no more use to him - kill him.

This second volume introduces Misa Amane as Light's new girlfriend who turns out to be more of a liability than he would like, and viewers will feel she is one more aspect in his life who will lessen his ability to keep control of his emotions.

The story takes a strange turn where Kira sees the first defiant steps against his work.

Viewers will enjoy this as it plays out on screen. Light is put in a difficult position, one which he will find more difficult to handle while Ryuzaki, now called Ryuga thinks he is Kira and tries to trick him in each episode. Ryuga is as always a few steps ahead of Light, and now that Light has accepted the challenge against the odds of him being caught, the story really becomes one of danger, suspense and intense drama as the two of them do battle against each other.

EXTRAS:
English Voice Actor Interviews and Recording sessions with Brian Drummond who is the voice actor for Ryuk the pesky shinigami. He tells of how he got into the business, how interesting it is to play such a strange character and what he thinks of the industry as a whole, Production Art Gallery full of colour and black & white pencil sketches of the various characters in their environments, Audio Commentary for Episode 11, and DVD credits for them give an all round feeling of something big.

IN SUMMARY:
Light and L battle it out for supremacy - Anime thrillers have never been so intense, compelling or shocking, and this is the best so far!
