"Why do you allow her to act with such independence? If she is more than you can deal with, then what use are you? She is your raison d' etre - lose her and you will lose your meaning. Such is the bond between an entourage and its master."
Re-l continues her journey along with Vincent and Pino. They hide in a cave where Re-l convinces herself she is a useless auto reiv and wonders how it is she has managed to get so far without them getting caught by the enemy. Iggy, her entourage has become infected and he has come back for Re-l - he is in love with her, and wants to kill the one who he sees has taken her away from him. Vincent and Pino have communication problems, when Iggy steals Re-l away from them without the two of them noticing. Now the real problem begins. Iggy has been infected for a while and has lied to her about it. Undergoing a personality change from the Kogito virus, Iggy thinks Vincent is the one who has taken her away from him, and views him differently to how she perceives him. When Re-l, Vincent and Iggy are together in a stand off, it looks like all might be for nothing until someone unexpected intervenes. Any viewer could be forgiven for thinking they were watching an ordinary anime, but this one could hardly be called that. Vincent still wants to know what he truly is, and his purpose. Is he a Proxy, or something more? The episodes play out as if they are moments stuck in time and slowed down. This volume is extremely sensitive, powerful in the writing and animation and is thought provoking. The surreality is shocking at times as Vincent is confused, as are the other two in the second episode as they are trapped on a place where they lose thoughts and memories. His closeness to Re-l and Pino makes himself feel as though he might find out his real self whether he is a Proxy or not. There are funny moments, which is strange for this series where the introduction sequence is a contestant in a Jeopardy style game show where he is asked what the intro song to Ergo Proxy is. That goes to show that the humour can creep into this series and not go unnoticed, though it is unusual. The viewer will still laugh at it without it being too out of the ordinary. The story that concerns the three of them moves at a slower pace, but this is on purpose and makes for more interesting and diverse viewing. EXTRAS: Trailers for existing anime series such as Berserk and Speed Grapher grace this volume. IN SUMMARY: Surrealistic and peculiar - an excellent volume. It takes a turn from its normal course and is all the more better for it. The humour in this is unforgettable!
