“Depending on your actions, Russia may lose its future.”

D'Eon requests a private audience with the Empress of Russia, Elizaveta asking her how his sister would have lived in the palace, and what her life would have been like. She comments that his sister brought change to the palace and outside its walls, infuriating many.

He reveals to her that he was sent by king Louis to uncover the real reason why his sister died, and to find out who murdered her. She tells him her sister once saved her life, and is filled with sadness she could not do anything for her in return to save her. The only way she could help is to instruct D’Eon to seek out Vorontsov as she is sure he is the man they are looking for who is most likely to have something to do with her demise. Though there is someone behind Vorontsov who controls his actions and he must be wary of him.

D’Eon returns to his two associates and tells them it was Lia, his sister who forged the bond between France and Russia and it is up to them to protect the Empress from a possible assassination attempt on her life. He believes that by doing this they would be acting in accordance with what his sister would have wanted.

In this third instalment of the saga, D’Eon finally comes closer to finding out who the killer of his sister is. He also realises how much of an influence Lia had on the court and that may be why she was got rid of eventually. D’Eon discovers she was surrounded by much danger and secrecy when she was alive, and Elizaveta tells him much of what he needs to know.

As he uncovers more of the plotting he begins to learn more of his sister’s life among the elite in this intriguing setting of the era.

The animation is fluid and the action never falters for a second – there is deception everywhere, and horrors just around the corner. As the answers come out, D’Eon finds how much danger his is now in. Will he be able to find his sister’s killer and face him for the first time?
There is much mystery in this volume. It is a tense, psychological drama with lush animation of the characters and backgrounds that are staggeringly realistic.

David Matranga portrays D’Eon with such emotion, yet the lead character is also gifted with a level-headedness that seems to keep the character grounded and most of all alive. David gives him a driving force using his voice to illustrate to the viewer the fear he must be going through as he is in constant danger throughout the entire series.
