Although she has a regular gig as the chicken on a TV show, Kyoko’s ambitions are hardly satisfied. She goes out on an audition for a huge commercial and is surprised to meet Love-Me rival Moko. Moko is having her own troubles though, as a longtime rival appears to steal her thunder. Will Kyoko finally win Moko over as a true friend and help her beat the rich girl with attitude that is threatening to mow down anyone and everyone in her way? This volume focuses more on Moko and the change in her relationship with Kyoko. The latest chapters reveal a lot about Moko and her true acting talent, her background and the thorn etching away at her confidence. It also shows Kyoko’s true kind nature as she strives to do all to help her friend, even if Moko can’t admit they are. Perhaps this will be the moment when she finally recognizes Kyoko’s sincerity. It also marks a deeper return to Kyoko’s true self before she went on this path of becoming a top talent-o to gain revenge on the showbiz hunk that did her wrong. There’s an interesting bit on Ren and his fighting his change of outlook regarding Kyoko. We see why he is so against her, but at the same time a childhood memory threatens his resolve as does glimpses of the real Kyoko that shines between her maniacal bouts of revenge against her hateful ex-boyfriend and head talent-o who has so cruelly used her. The movement between poignant dramatic moments and off-the-wall comedy are done consistently well throughout this manga series. There are laugh-out-loud scenes again and again with Kyoko’s maniacal outbursts whenever her “evil” impulses take over. But then the story turns to more touching scenes with her reaching out to Moko and her steadfast friendship to the fellow actress. Extras in this volume include references and translation notes. IN SUMMARY: The latest volume focuses on Moko and Kyoko’s relationship with her, giving more chances for laughs and sweetness in this quirky and brilliantly clever shojo comedy.
