Last time in the unusual shojo tale, a creepy man stopped short of nothing to get his hands on the talking stuffed toy Nicori. He even went so far as to kidnap Ame. On his way to rescue her, Nicori braved numerous perils, the biggest of which was losing his head – literally! With the help of an abandoned cat, Nicori gets himself together and rushes to save Ame – the girl in question is meanwhile putting up a fight. She’s horrified at how her abductor has treated a pile of stuffed toys. His torturing of toys is disturbing to say the least. Battered but unbound, Nicori arrives at the scene to discover the surprising reason behind the abduction. The rescue doesn’t go smoothly, though, and harsh words are exchanged between the toy and Ame. In a huff, Nicori considers leaving on its own or shacking up with the cute cat. And again it’s Midori who tries to help the two patch things up. It’s just in time because Ame will need all the support she can get when she learns that the love of her life, Sasaki, is leaving. This is an unusual series. Even though this is the second volume, it’s still unclear to me what tone it wants to set. It’s not as light hearted as one would expect a shojo about a talking stuffed to would be. The angst is often extremely melodramatic in its delivery. And the series has its disquieting elements like the toys being tortured, and sorrowful, heavy-hearted parts such as the tale around the abandoned cat. What I can say is if you’re looking for something different and unexpected, this off-centre manga is it.
IN SUMMARY:
Minima continues to be an unusual blend for a shojo series. It will definitely appeal to people who want to read a unique series.
