It’s the Third Selection in the music competition and Kahoko’s magical violin is about to lose its power!  Without its magic, can Kahoko still play on a level commensurate to her competitors?

Things take an unexpected turn this volume of La Corda d’Oro.  The magical violin has been the key to Kahoko’s success --- or has it?  Without its magic to rely on anymore, Kahoko’s musical aspirations face an unexpected obstacle.  The question is whether Kahoko can overcome her reliance on that magic and find out if she has true talent of her own.

The winner of the Third Selection is quite the surprise.  Everyone works hard to prepare for the Fourth Selection.  But some of the students are taking a step back to reevaluate their playing styles, perhaps even their lifestyles.  The focused Len in particular loosens up a tiny bit and even accepts an invitation from Kahoko to go to a theme park.  This is an awkward situation though, because it’s a “double date” with Ryotaro and his ex-girlfriend Mizue Sakimoto.  This girl is shameless in her wish to reclaim Ryotaro as her own and she’s keeping a close eye on Kahoko while also putting Ryotaro on the spot.

This volume also features a bonus manga story about a rich girl named Tamaki and the sweet boy who loves her.  With her always being surrounded by bodyguards and with the fierce demeanor of the mafia, Tamaki is not an easy girl to approach.  Plus she thinks the schoolboy is something of a pest.  But when potential tragedy strikes, the true strength and feelings of these two people will perhaps come to light.  It is a tale with both charm and comedy.

IN SUMMARY:
It’s a pivotal moment in the manga series when Kahoko loses her magical violin!
